Introduction: The Divine Significance of Rama Ekadashi
Rama Ekadashi is one of the most sacred fasting days in the Hindu lunar calendar. It is observed on the Ekadashi tithi (11th day) of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month, just a few days before Diwali.
This Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his divine consort Goddess Lakshmi (Rama Devi), from whom it derives its name. Devotees observe this fast to attain prosperity, forgiveness for sins, and ultimately, moksha (liberation).
According to ancient scriptures, observing Rama Ekadashi with full devotion removes past karmic debts and brings wealth, peace, and spiritual elevation.
Rama Ekadashi Vrat Katha (Story)
According to the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, once, King Muchukunda, a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, ruled over the solar dynasty. He had a daughter named Chandrabhaaga, who was married to Shubh, the son of a merchant named Dhanapala.
Dhanapala was a deeply religious man who observed all Ekadashi fasts with devotion. However, his son Shubh was indulgent and had no interest in dharma. One day, Chandrabhaaga noticed that her husband never fasted on Ekadashi and was saddened. She lovingly explained to him the importance of Rama Ekadashi and persuaded him to keep the fast.
Shubh followed her advice, fasted with sincerity, and spent the day in prayer and devotion. After his death, he attained Vaikuntha (the abode of Lord Vishnu). His wife Chandrabhaaga also received divine blessings and joined him in eternal bliss.
From that time onward, Rama Ekadashi became known as one of the most powerful Ekadashi fasts, capable of removing sins and granting liberation.
