Thousands of voters in Uttar Pradesh have been left worried after their names were removed from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. According to official estimates, nearly 2.75 crore voters across the state were either deleted from the electoral roll or could not be included in the draft voter list due to incomplete digital mapping.

Now, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has provided much-needed relief. Voters whose names were excluded during the SIR process will be given one final opportunity to get their names restored in the voter list.

Why Were So Many Names Removed During SIR?

This year’s SIR exercise was carried out using the 2003 base voter list along with digital address mapping. During this process, a large number of voters were excluded due to multiple reasons:

Names flagged under this category were temporarily removed for verification.

District-Level Impact

Applications submitted within this period will be verified, and eligible voters’ names will be added to the final voter list.
