U.P. Government Presents ₹9.12 Lakh Crore Budget for 2026-27; Focus on Growth, Welfare and Fiscal Stability

The Government of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday unveiled its largest-ever state budget for the financial year 2026-27, with a total outlay of ₹9,12,696.35 crore. The budget was presented in the Assembly by Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The spending plan emphasizes education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure expansion, industrial growth and sustainable development, while also maintaining fiscal discipline and long-term economic stability.

Largest Budget in State’s History

According to the Finance Minister, the budget is about 12.9% higher than last year and reflects the state’s improving financial capacity and investment-friendly environment.

Under the Defence Industrial Corridor, agreements for nearly 200 defence units have been signed, expected to bring:

Youth Empowerment and Digital Access

The government will continue distributing digital devices under the Swami Vivekanand Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana:

  • ₹2,374 crore allocated
  • Tablets and smartphones for students

The initiative aims to improve digital literacy and skill readiness among youth.


Healthcare Expansion

The budget proposes major expansion in medical infrastructure:

  • ₹14,997 crore for medical education
  • ₹1,023 crore for 14 new medical colleges
  • ₹315 crore for Cancer Institute, Lucknow
  • ₹130 crore for free treatment of incurable diseases
  • ₹37,956 crore for health and family welfare
  • ₹500 crore for Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana

Currently, the state has 81 medical colleges (45 government, 36 private).


Agriculture and Farmers Support

Key farmer-oriented measures include:

  • ₹637.84 crore to convert diesel pumps to solar pumps
  • ₹150 crore revolving fund for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)
  • ₹75 crore state contribution to the fund
  • Credit limit up to ₹50 lakh per eligible FPO

The scheme aims to reduce fuel costs and promote clean energy use in farming.


Tourism and Regional Economy

To promote religious tourism:

  • ₹150 crore for development of tourism facilities in Ayodhya region

The government expects the move to boost employment and strengthen the local economy.


Vision of a Trillion-Dollar Economy

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the budget as a milestone toward a “Developed Uttar Pradesh” aligned with the national development vision.

He expressed confidence that the spending plan will:
