New Turbo-Petrol Engine Finally Arrives

One of the most significant updates is the introduction of a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from the Tata Nexon.

Engine Options Explained:

  • 1.2L Turbo-Petrol
    • Power: 120hp
    • Torque: 170Nm
    • Gearbox: 6-speed manual only
    • 0–100 km/h: 11.1 seconds
  • 1.2L Naturally Aspirated Petrol
    • Power: 88hp
    • Torque: 115Nm
    • Gearbox: 5-speed MT / AMT
  • 1.2L Petrol + CNG
    • Power: 73hp
    • Torque: 103Nm
    • Gearbox: 5-speed MT / AMT (new)

The absence of an automatic gearbox for the turbo-petrol variant is likely a strategic move to avoid pricing overlap with lower trims of the Nexon.

Rivals in the Segment

The Tata Punch facelift competes with:

  • Hyundai Exter
  • Citroen C3
  • Lower variants of Renault Kiger
  • Lower variants of Nissan Magnite

Verdict: Is the Tata Punch Facelift Worth It?

The Tata Punch facelift successfully fixes its biggest drawback by introducing a powerful turbo-petrol engine, while also enhancing design, features, and safety. With competitive pricing, strong safety credentials, and multiple powertrain choices—including CNG with AMT—the Punch becomes an even more compelling option in the sub-compact SUV space.

For buyers looking for a safe, feature-rich, and versatile urban SUV under Rs 10 lakh, the 2026 Tata Punch facelift makes a strong case.
