Goddess Matangi is a powerful and mystical form of the Divine Feminine. She governs speech, music, creativity, and all forms of expression. She is also considered a Tantric form of Saraswati, but unlike Saraswati, she accepts what is considered impure or left-over (uchchhishta), symbolizing her transcendence over dualities like pure/impure.

  • Wake up early, bathe, and wear clean clothes.
  • Clean your home or puja space.
  • Set up a picture or idol of Goddess Matangi.

🪔 Puja Steps

  1. Dhyana (Meditation) – Meditate on her form and qualities.
  2. Sankalp (Resolve) – Take a vow to observe the fast and worship with devotion.
  3. Offerings (Upacharas):
    • Fresh flowers (especially green)
    • Fruits, sweets, and leftover food (a Tantric tradition)
    • Betel leaves and turmeric
    • Light ghee lamps and incense sticks

Matangi Vrat Katha (Story of Matangi Jayanti)

According to legends in Tantric texts, once Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were enjoying a meal. From their leftovers emerged a radiant form of a goddess—Matangi. She asked them for permission to partake in the leftovers, which they gladly granted. This signifies her transcendence over worldly norms of purity and impurity.

Her story teaches that true spiritual realization goes beyond societal taboos and superficial distinctions.

Matangi Jayanti Vrat (Fasting)

  • Many devotees observe a day-long fast on Matangi Jayanti.
