LPG New Rule 2026: Aadhaar e-KYC Made Mandatory—Complete Guide for Consumers

In a significant move to improve efficiency and transparency, the Government of India has made Aadhaar-based e-KYC compulsory for all LPG consumers. This update impacts millions of households across the country and is designed to eliminate duplicate connections while ensuring subsidies reach the right beneficiaries.

If you use LPG at home, here’s everything you need to know—from why this rule has been introduced to how you can complete the process بسهولة from your home.

Why Aadhaar e-KYC Is Now Mandatory for LPG Users

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has introduced biometric Aadhaar verification to streamline LPG distribution and reduce misuse. By linking Aadhaar with LPG connections, the government aims to:

  • Remove duplicate or fake connections
  • Ensure subsidies reach genuine users
  • Improve system transparency and accountability

This rule applies to customers of major LPG providers like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum.

For beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the rules are stricter. They must complete e-KYC at the beginning of every financial year to continue receiving subsidy benefits. Additionally, LPG connections that remain inactive for more than nine months may require in-person verification at the distributor’s office.

Things You Need Before Starting e-KYC

Before beginning the process, make sure you have the following ready:

  • Aadhaar number linked to your LPG connection
  • Mobile number registered with Aadhaar
  • A smartphone with the Aadhaar FaceRD app installed
  • Good lighting for facial recognition
  • Biometrics unlocked in your mAadhaar app

How to Complete LPG Aadhaar e-KYC from Home

You can easily complete your e-KYC using the official apps of your LPG provider. Here’s how:

For Indane Gas (Indian Oil)

  • Download the IndianOil ONE app
  • Log in using your registered mobile number
  • Navigate to the LPG section and select e-KYC
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and provide consent
  • Complete the face scan via the Aadhaar FaceRD app

For HP Gas (Hindustan Petroleum)

  • Install the HP Pay app
  • Register with your mobile number and create an MPIN
  • Go to the LPG section under “My HP”
  • Select e-KYC and accept the terms
  • Perform the facial scan to finish verification

For Bharat Gas (BPCL)

  • Download the Hello BPCL app
  • Log in using your registered mobile number
  • Choose Aadhaar Authentication or e-KYC
  • Follow the prompts and complete the face scan

Offline Option: In-Person Verification

If you’re unable to complete e-KYC online, you can visit your LPG distributor. Carry:

  • Aadhaar card
  • LPG consumer booklet/passbook

The distributor will assist you in completing biometric verification using their system.

Deadline for LPG e-KYC in 2026

The government has advised consumers to complete the Aadhaar e-KYC process by March 31, 2026.

Missing this deadline could lead to:

  • Temporary suspension of LPG subsidy
  • Delays or disruption in cylinder refills

What This Means for You

This new rule is a step toward a more secure and transparent LPG distribution system. While the process may seem technical at first, it is designed to be user-friendly and can be completed in just a few minutes from home.

Completing your e-KYC on time ensures uninterrupted service, continued subsidy benefits, and a hassle-free LPG experience.
