India’s First Indigenous Bomber UAV: The FWD-200B Unveiled

Flying Wedge Defence, a big name in Bengaluru’s aerospace and defense field, has just revealed the FWD-200B, India’s top homemade bomber drone. This big step forward boosts India’s defense strength while keeping costs low and relying on our own technology.

Founder and visionary, Suhas Tejaskanda, underscored the pivotal aspect of cost reduction in the development of the FWD-200B. Priced at a mere ₹25 crores, this bomber UAV stands in stark contrast to its foreign counterparts, showcasing India’s commitment to affordability and self-sufficiency in the defense sector. Such cost-effectiveness not only enhances India’s defense preparedness but also aligns with the nation’s larger strategic goals of promoting indigenous innovation.

However, beyond its economic merits, the FWD-200B packs a punch in terms of advanced capabilities. Classified as a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle, it boasts a payload capacity of 100 kgs, making it versatile for a wide range of missions. Equipped with optical surveillance payloads and precision air strike weapons, this indigenous bomber UAV ensures effectiveness across diverse combat scenarios, thus enhancing India’s operational readiness.

In terms of performance, the FWD-200B delivers impressive specifications. With a maximum speed of 200 knots/370 kmph and an endurance capacity of 12-20 hours, it offers both speed and endurance crucial for sustained operations. Moreover, its maximum takeoff weight of 498 kgs and ground control station range of 200 kms further underscore its operational flexibility, enabling it to adapt to various mission requirements seamlessly.

Looking ahead, Flying Wedge Defence is focused on navigating the path to certification for the FWD-200B. Rigorous flight testing and certification from the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) are pivotal milestones on this journey. Once certified, the FWD-200B aims to be seamlessly integrated into the Indian armed forces, bolstering their capabilities significantly.

However, the ambitions of Flying Wedge Defence extend beyond domestic deployment. With an eye on global markets, particularly regions where cost-prohibitive alternatives are impractical, the firm seeks to position the FWD-200B as a viable solution. Export opportunities could not only drive economic growth but also establish India as a key player in the global defense industry, showcasing its prowess in delivering cutting-edge technologies at competitive prices.

In conclusion, the unveiling of the FWD-200B marks a watershed moment in India’s defense industry. It exemplifies the nation’s commitment to innovation, affordability and self-reliance, positioning India as a formidable player in the global defense arena. With Flying Wedge Defence leading the charge, the future looks promising for indigenous defense technologies in India.
